根据《People》报导，卡森于当地时间11日上午7时许，在自家车道等待校车时，遭到阿婆所驾驶的车辆撞倒；警方接获报案到场后，发现卡森已经明显死亡。
斯莱德尔警察局长丹尼尔·苏泽诺（DanielSeuzeneau）表示，当时克里斯汀开车是要准备要去上班，由于她不知孙子就站在车道上，加上她开的是一辆大型的SUV，因此没有看到卡森，才会发生死亡车祸。
据报导，丹尼尔指出，警方当下有对克里斯汀进行精神状态检查，发现她神智不清，并受到酒精和中枢神经系统抑制剂的影响，因此立即依过失杀人罪将克里斯汀逮捕。
