On the morning of September 4, hosted by the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and jointly organized by Guangxi Daily (Guangxi International Communication Center), China News Service Guangxi Branch, Pinglu Canal Group Co., Ltd., Beibu Gulf Port Group, and the Information Office of the Qinzhou Municipal People's Government, the event "Dialogue with the World—Chinese and Foreign Youth on Opportunities in the Canal Era" was held at the Pinglu Canal Construction Command in Qinzhou. Media representatives, experts, scholars, and young people from China and various ASEAN countries gathered at the Pinglu Canal to exchange views on topics such as project construction, regional connectivity, economic and trade cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, jointly discussing new opportunities for cooperation in the canal era.
Viewing the value of the corridor from the perspective of project construction. At the event, a relevant official from Pinglu Canal Group introduced the construction status. Earlier, Chinese and international guests visited key construction sites along the Pinglu Canal, experiencing firsthand this monumental project that is nearing its opening to navigation.The 134.2-kilometer-long Pinglu Canal connects the Xijiang River and the Beibu Gulf, serving as a key project of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. Through on-site visits and project introductions, Chinese and foreign guests further understood the technological innovation, smart management, and significance of the Pinglu Canal construction for enhancing Guangxi's level of open development.
Viewing cooperation opportunities from a youth perspective. In the youth representative sharing session, three young people from China and abroad shared their observations and reflections on the Pinglu Canal, drawing on their own experiences and on-site visits. The youth representative from Pinglu Canal Group shared stories of technological innovation and builders behind the project from the front lines of construction; the Malaysian young journalist shared regional connectivity opportunities brought by the construction of the Pinglu Canal from the perspective of ASEAN media; the young reporter from Guangxi Daily, drawing on the long-term frontline reporting experiences,shared how young media professionals document canal construction and observe regional changes.
Building youth consensus through dialogue and exchange. In the "Opportunities for Cooperation in the Canal Era—How Does a Canal Connect China and ASEAN?"roundtable dialogue,guests from fields of port, shipping, regional economy, and international communication discussed topics such as "What Does the Canal Transform?—The Pinglu Canal and the New Landscape of Regional Connectivity" and "The Canal as a Bridge—People-to-People Exchanges and Youth Responsibility in the Canal Era". They explored how the Pinglu Canal can reduce logistics costs and increase efficiency, optimize industrial layout, and deepen China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation, and how young people can tell canal stories and participate in regional exchanges. During the event, Chinese and foreign youth representatives jointly issued the Initiative on China-ASEAN Mainstream Media International Coverage of the Canal, advocating for strengthening youth exchanges, deepening canal-themed cooperation, promoting regional communication collaboration, and telling the story of China-ASEAN cooperation together.
After the event, some ASEAN media will visit places such as Lingqu Canalin Xing'an, Guilin. Tracing the developmental trajectory from the ancient Lingqu Canal to the Pinglu Canal, they will gain further insight into the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese wisdom regarding water management.
